Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick Lists Texas Bitcoin Reserve as a “Top Priority”

Dan Patrick, Lieutenant-Governor of the State of Texas, has listed the Bitcoin reserve as an absolute priority for 2025. Other priorities adjacent to industry include “Texas Doge” and electric upgrades.

However, Patrick did not give any clear indication of pro-Crypto feelings before today and really criticized the mining industry in Texas last year. We do not know how much his new commitment to industry will go deep.

A Bitcoin Reserve of Texas

The movement to create an American Bitcoin national reserve has been in force for months now. About fifteen states develop legislation for Bitcoin reserves at the state level, and Texas was an early and persistent member of this coalition.

Today, Lieutenant-Governor Dan Patrick has listed the creation of a Texas reserve as an “absolute priority” for 2025.

Although the push for a national level reserve apparently increases, it has received some setbacks. President Trump has published an executive decree to create a “digital stock”, which is neither exclusive of Bitcoin nor integrated into the federal reserve.

Some feared that this half-measure could sap the energy for a national reserve, but Texas still tries to store Bitcoin.

Initially, Patrick announced the names of 25 invoices with the designation of “absolute priority” and will follow with 15 others. However, only a few of them directly or indirectly benefit from the crypto. The Bitcoin reserve proposal from Texas is obvious help, as is the “Texas Doge” proposal.

However, the governor responded preventively to these concerns, saying that he limited his first set of objectives:

“Senators as having a small number of invoices because it shows that their bill is a priority of Lieutenant Governor and has a high probability of adoption. It is not because a bill is not included in the top 40 that it is not a priority for me or the Senate. There will be hundreds of bills that will spend the Senate, which are all important for Texas, “said Governor Patrick.

In addition, several other priority invoices would clearly help the Bitcoin industry in Texas via an avenue: cryptographic exploitation. The state has become a hub for mining, with several leading companies moving to Texas last year.

Some of Patrick’s other priorities, such as investing in the electricity network or water supply, would likely benefit this industry.

“An American state moving to hold BTC on books? It is the adoption of higher level. If it passes, Texas would not only be suitable for mining – it would hold hard money in a state assessment, “wrote Mario Nawfal.

In the end, however, it can be too early to be particularly excited. Patrick has held this position for a decade, and he has made no statement or substantial pro-Crypto politics before that.

In fact, he publicly criticized the mining sector last year. In short, the governor may have granted an absolute priority on a Bitcoin reserve in Texas, but the bill must still adopt.
