Donors Announce Roman Storm Legal Donations in Response to Possible Retrial
The developer of Tornado Cash, Roman Storm, the Defense Fund for Legal Defense see an influx of donations while the defense team of the software creator is preparing for a possible new trial on accusations of money laundering and sanctions. The Ethereum Foundation said Thursday that it will equal up to $ 500,000 in donations to the Storm Defense Fund.
The jury of the Storm trial was blocked in an impasse – unable to make a verdict unanimous – out of two of the three counts against him, deeming the developer guilty of having managed a silver issuer without license.
“Juries lawyers do not trigger the double danger, so the accused can be tried again,” said Brandon Ferrick, Advocate General of Douro Labs, at Cointelegraph.
Crypto industry leaders and digital rights activists said the partial verdict on Wednesday establishes a dangerous legal precedent for open-source software developers in the United States and has an impact

Lawyers weigh on the probability of a new trial
The United States Ministry of Justice (DOJ) must decide whether it will produce a new trial of the first and third counts in the case, lawyers said at Cointelegraph.
“I do not know what to expect here because, although the Trump administration has taken a lighter touch with the crypto, they generally maintained their criminal proceedings,” said lawyer Aaron Brogan.
“I think it is reasonable to conclude that the government may not try again the unfortunate count of money laundering, given the political posture,” said Ferrick de Douro Labs.
The two lawyers have agreed that the call process will be the next major focal point in the case and will expect Storm’s defense team to call the guilt.
“The application of article 1960 to money issuers in which he was convicted was extremely controversial in the past year,” Brogan told Cointelegraph.
Ferrick added that he expects Storm to call on the guilt verdict and fight the accusation “until the end”.
Storm asked for $ 1.5 million in donations for its legal defense fund in July. “Legal costs accumulate quickly and we need your help urgently,” he wrote in an X Post.
