Robinhood to acquire Canada’s WonderFi for $179M in global crypto push
Brokerage Fintech Robinhood is expected to acquire Wonderfi, a Canadian cryptography company, for around $ 250 million ($ 179 million) in an agreement of all cases to extend its global presence.
The acquisition is expected to end in the second half of 2025, Robinhood said in a press release on May 13.
Wonderfi operates two of the oldest cryptography trading platforms in Canada, Bitbuy and Coinsquare, managing more than $ 2.1 billion Canadian dollars. These platforms offer trading, clearing and crypto guard services.
“Wonderfi has built a formidable family of brands at the service of beginners and advanced crypto users, making it an ideal partner to speed up the mission of Robinhood in Canada,” said Johann Kerbrat, main vice-president and managing director of Robinhoood Crypto.
Under the terms of the agreement, Robinhood acquires all Wonderfi shares in circulation at $ 0.36 Canadian dollars per share – a bonus of 41% compared to the last Wonderfi closing price on the Toronto Stock Exchange and a premium of 71% compared to its average price weighted by the volume of 30 days.
Before the agreement, Wonderfi’s market capitalization was $ 163.9 million Canadian dollars, and its shares fell 13.6% year on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The agreement remains subject to the usual closing conditions, including regulatory approvals and courts, as well as the approval of Wonderfi shareholders.

The acquisition of Robinhood of $ 179 million in Wonderfi is part of a broader wave of mergers and acquisitions of the cryptographic industry (M & AS) in 2025, stimulated by more user -friendly American regulations under President Donald Trump.

In particular, Wonderfi experienced solid performance in 2024, dealing with 3.57 Canadian dollars of billions of negotiation volumes, an increase of 28% compared to the previous year.
