14-Year-Old Avery Colvert Receives TIME100 Impact Award

JLast month, Avery Colvert, 14, looked at thousands of buildings, including his school, in his hometown of Altadena, California, engulfed by flames.

Altadena Girls – A recovery fund for adolescents victims of the Eaton fire – was born from a group conversation between Colvert and his friends, said Reid. An Instagram account Altadena Girls has become viral, receiving the support of high -level brands like Skims and Orebella and celebrities like Mindy Kaling and Charli XCX. Colvert has collected donations of clothing, beauty products and personal care items, which it has distributed free of charge in a pop-up location. Soon, he will have a permanent house in the old town of Pasadena, offering mental health services, homework rooms, dance lessons and a space to connect to a community of young women.

Colvert is the youngest winner of the Time100 Impact Award – which recognizes leaders in the sectors and around the world shaping their industries, their communities and the future. “Avery, proves your leadership,” said Reid, “you can have an impact at any age.”

Accepting the price, Colvert said: “Altadena Girls was an idea for the end of the evening that imagined only 46 days ago while my neighborhood, school and friends were burned.” (His own house survived the fire.)

“Going from fear, depressed and despair to feel independent, supported and hope for the future in such a short time, will show the incredible power of the kindness and the community,” -He declared.

The Women’s Gala of the Year was presented by P&G, Rolex, Amazon, Booking.com, Chase, Deloitte, The American Heart Association and Toyota.
