Battlefield 6 Delays Battle Royale Mode Until 2026

Sources indicate that the development of the battle royale mode has been pushed back beyond the game’s launch due to inherent challenges encountered during development under the ‘basics first’ process. EA does not want to repeat the error of Battlefield V, where the late introduction of Firestorm brought it no recognition. It was a tightly packed genre guarded by , Fortnite, and Apex Legends.

One source familiar with the development process shared, “Rather than rushing out a half-baked mode, the team is prioritizing stability, balance, and polished multiplayer gameplay first.”

While did well with its pivot into battle royale with Warzone, the has suffered some bumps along the way. Firestorm lacked post-launch content updates and was never integrated with the ecosystem. EA appears to be intent on avoiding the same mistake twice.

Interestingly, some fans think this delay might be a good thing. “Let them get the core game right first. BR can come later if it’s well made,” wrote one Reddit user in the Battlefield fan thread.

Despite the rumoured delay, fans are saying that the battle royale hasn’t been knocked off the block. The whispered news is that the development of the battle royale is running in parallel, possibly even as a free-to-play companion, akin to Warzone.
