Bitcoin Community Arcs Up At Texas Cop Breaking BTC ATM
County sheriff in Texas has taken a power cutting tool at an automatic local cryptography window after a family has been scampered by $ 25,000, causing a debate among the users of cryptography within the meaning of its actions.
According to local reports on Tuesday, a crook had deceived a family in the county of Jasper, northwest of Houston, to deposit funds in a local bitcoin (BTC) by usurping the identity of a government employee.
The sheriff of the county of Jasper, Chuck Havard, obtained a search warrant and opened the automatic counter, which the photos display were marked as being used by Bitcoin Depot, to recover around $ 32,000, including the $ 25,000 that the family paid to the crooks.
Havard said that the caller of the scam told the family that he had $ 25,000 in fines and asked them to deposit the money in a Bitcoin address, with the family, then using Bitcoin ATM to transfer the funds.
Bitcoin Depot was contacted to comment on the incident.
Crypto users question cops tactics
“Perhaps it looks like government employees destroyed the property of an innocent third party and stole his money,” the user of Reddit Johndlg said on Wednesday in response to the news.
The user of Reddit Jad8484 said that “unless it is the owner of the kiosk that is based, that makes no sense.”
“It’s like confiscating all the money from a CVS register after someone bought a bunch of gift cards to send to the crooks,” they added.
Havard defended his actions and would have declared: “When thieves, low content and crooks will try to take advantage of the citizens of the county of Jasper, we will work quickly and use all the resources at our disposal to protect our citizens and their goods at all costs.”
Difficult case to break, says the sheriff
Havard said that such cases involving cryptographic scams “can be very complex and difficult to resolve”.
He said that his department had not yet located the fate of the crook.
The incident occurs in the midst of a careful examination of automatic distributors of crypto tickets in the United States and abroad.
