Coinbase fires compromised agents in India, says security chief
Coinbase would have dismissed a group of customer support officers after their presumed involvement in social engineering attacks against users. Contractual agents were based in India.
According to a fortune interview on May 15, Coinbase security director Philip Martin said that the company had reported customer support entrepreneurs who allowed crooks to access user data, which could be Indian nationals. CSO comments occurred after some crypto users have disturbed phishing attack attempts using their Coinbase data, which, depending on the exchange, could cost them between $ 180 million and $ 400 million in recovery and reimbursement.
Qiao Wang, a basic contributor to Alliance Dao, said in a position on May 15 that he may have been the victim of one of these attacks. He said that a crook informed him that his Coinbase account had been compromised, had asked him to check his personal information, to which the criminals probably had access through compromise agents, and asked him to withdraw all his funds from a “self-deputy Coinbase portfolio”.
“I called them at the end of the call telling them that they must intensify their game […]”Said Wang on X.” They told me that it had won $ 7 million that day. “
Cointelegraph contacted Martin and Coinbase for comments, but had not received any answers at the time of publication.
This is a history in development, and additional information will be added as it will be available.
