After the subsequent arrest and apparent suicide of the technological billionaire Monica Kidder (Gaby Hoffmann) in the penultimate episode, we learn the full extent of the involvement of Mullen’s daughter, Alex (Lizzy Caplan) and Several of his colleagues from Congress in the zero day of the day route.

During a meeting of the group at the office of the president of the room Richard Dreyer (Matthew Modine), Alex reveals that she had the impression that zero day would be “a minute of shock of the system” which would put power in good hands For a few months, restore faith in the government and put the country back on the right track. She never wanted anyone who is injured and begs the group to clean up. However, Dreyer insists that they have to finish what they started.

When the electricity network goes down once again, a threat to its Mullen security forces to try to flee its New York compound in the north of the state despite the demonstrators of the doors. Chaos and violence ensue, but the director of the CIA, Jeremy Lasch (Bill Camp), presents himself just in time for Secret Mullen while reports are sent that he was killed. Lasch explains that he and President Mitchell had powerful suspicions of zero day involved actors in the interior of the government, which is why they needed someone outside the normal canals, like Mullen, to investigate.

When Mullen confronts Alex in her apartment, she explains how Kidder went on board and proposed to deploy the malware used for the attack via applications belonging to his Panoply company only after the idea was prepared by Dreyer and his lacch. She then asks for help from her father.

Mullen summons Dreyer to a secret meeting and threatens to arrest him, but Dreyer does not suggest so politically a different line of conduct: he and the rest of the guilty members of the congress will resign when their terms are sold, Mullen can blame Zero Day on Kidder And Shady Billionaire, investor Robert Lyndon (Clark Gregg), and this can be the end. If Mullen does not agree, Alex will come with everyone.

During the delivery of the final report of the Zero Day commission before a joint session of the congress, Mullen begins again to hear the song that played when he found the body of his last son. This pushes him to stop his prepared speech and talk about the heart of the reason why the truth is important. He then reads from a letter that Alex left her in which she admits to her involvement and declares that she plans to turn around.

Despite the personal, professional and national consequences at stake, Mullen chooses to publicly disclose the identity of all those who were behind the fatal attack on cyberterrorism of the zero day which is shaken in America to its heart. Mullen clearly hopes that his honesty will lead at the beginning of a new chapter for his deeply fragmented country and will help the American people come together to face a common enemy. It is a bit bittersness end, with the latest scenes from the series involving that Mullen has now lost the rest of his family in search of what was “good”.

Of course, in real life, it does not seem that there can be such a simple solution to the disastrous state of contemporary American polarization. As TIME Television criticism Judy Berman said: “The extreme efforts of the show to avoid offense, bromures on the truth and freedom it offers instead of more specific and potentially controversial perspectives, feel a Little like a betrayal of his hero of the complaint. ”
