Coinbase to hire 130+ staff as it expands into Charlotte’s fintech hub

The Crypto Coinbase Crypto exchanges should extend its footprint by hiring more than 130 employees in Charlotte, in North Carolina, as part of a wider thrust to draw from emerging fintech talent swimming pools through the United States, confirmed a company spokesperson at Cointelegraph.

“Coinbase makes a new investment in Charlotte with a new physical office and an immediate commitment to hire for more than 130 local roles both to compliance and customer support in the next six months,” said the spokesperson.

They added that the accent put by Coinbase on Charlotte is in response to the emergence of the city as a key financial and technological center, which makes it a primordial choice for the expansion of responding to growing customers and compliance requests.

With a fast growing population and a highly qualified talent pool, Charlotte offers an ideal setting to support the long-term growth of Coinbase, the spokesman said.

Coinbase remains a company from a distance first

Coinbase works as a distance company first since 2020, with existing offices in San Francisco and New York.

“We are still a distance company first; however, we have roles on a global scale which are in office due to the nature of the role and our concentration on how we can better deliver our customers,” said the spokesperson.

They added that around 95% of Coinbase employees can work at home, office or mix. The overview here is that we make an intentional push to meet the best talents where they are.

This decision comes as CEO of Coinbase, Brian Armstrong, described the plans to add approximately 1,000 new American employees this year, drawn by favorable regulatory signals from the Pro-Crypto administration of President Donald Trump.

“Coinbase plans to hire around 1,000 people in the United States this year as a direct consequence of its actions already in the first 60 days approximately,” said Armstrong in a video published on X on March 7.

The addition of 1,000 additional employees would increase the total Coinbase workforce by around 27%, according to the most recent data from Stockanalysis, which shows that the Crypto Exchange currently has 3,772 employees.

However, the spokesman said that expansion to Charlotte is more motivated by “the opportunity of talents” in the region, rather than by recent actions of the Trump administration.

The new expansion plans also take place while Coinbase has confirmed that he plans to request an American federal bank charter.
