BOB Adds ZK Fraud Proofs, Eyes Maturity Rank on L2Beat
The layer 2 blockchain network built on Bitcoin (BOB) has deployed a major technical upgrade which brings it closer to obtaining a fully decentralized brand on L2Beat, a platform that classifies the maturity and decentralization of layer 2 networks.
Bob, which aims to provide decentralized financing capacities of Ethereum (DEFI) in Bitcoin, has implemented zero knowledge fraud tests (ZK) in an optimistic Rollup framework.
This means that Bob uses an optimistic roller structure but replaces the traditional and slow verification process of fraud with faster ZK fraud evidence – a change that makes it possible to resolve transaction litigation in a few minutes using cryptographic evidence.
The new implementation aims to reduce friction for users and reduce the barrier to participating in network security.
Build on Bitcoin joins the race for full decentralization
The co-founder of Bob, Alexei Zamyatin, told Cintelegraph that his new upgrade of Kailua brought the blockchain to scene 0 on the L2Beat platform, allowing him to join 24 other protocols in the Rollup ranking on the platform.
“This upgrade will bring Bob to stadium 0 on L2Beat,” Zamyatin told Cointelegraph. “It is then a relatively short jump to reach stages 1 and 2.”
L2Beat classifies the maturity and decentralization of the layer-2 by placing specific requirements, such as the possibility of having functional anti-fraud and having security advice. He attributes zero stages to three after having examined and determined the state of the protocols according to his standards.
“Kailua upgrade resolves the largest challenge to reach stages 1 and 2, having a functional evidence system, which gives Bob Full Ethereum Security,” Zamyatin told Cointelegraph.
The team added that the only remaining obstacle is to add security council with sufficient external entities and a delay in code updates. “These updates are also underway,” Zamyatin told Cointelegraph.
Currently, 22 protocols have reached step 0 and 1 on the platform, while only two protocols, namely ZK.Money V1 and Honeypot PRT have reached Stadium 2 on the platform.
Rolls like Arbitrum One, Base Chain and OP Mainnet are some of the highest protocols in terms of secure total value.
Cointtelegraph stretched out for comments but did not receive any response by publication.

Unlock ZK verification on Bitcoin
Zamyatin also told Cointtelegraph that the recent ZK upgrades to bob open the way to ZK verification on Bitcoin.
“With ZK to Bob upgrades, we also unlock the ZK check on the most important network: Bitcoin,” said Zamyatin, adding that with Bitvm, the same validity proofs on the Bob channel can also be checked on Bitcoin.
He said it was a “key construction element” for a bridge entirely secured by Bitcoin powered by Bitvm, which provides intelligent contracts and Bitcoin programmability.
He added that the combination of all these parts made from Bob a gangway towards Bitcoin Defi. “With everything anchored in Bitcoin Security, Bob offers users, institutions, protocols DEFI and other channels access to the native BTC on Bob, fueled by Bitvm,” Zamyatin told Cointelegraph.
In a previous interview, he predicted that Bitcoin Defi would exceed Ethereum and Solana and would have more than 300 million users.
