Crypto sleuth probes attacker behind Bored Ape heist

The police arrested the bad person for a scam in 2022 which won more than a million dollars of non -budgeted tokens (NFT), said cybersecurity researcher Zachxbt.

In a position X 9 May, Zachxbt said that he had identified the portfolio behind the scam and had linked it to an X account that had since been deleted.

But in 2023, the police arrested Sam Curry, a former security researcher from Yuga Labs, at an airport as a suspect in the incident, said Zachxbt. Yuga Labs is the company behind the NFT Club Nft Ape Bored collection.

“It is regrettable to see how a security researcher was detained when stronger avenues of a potentially responsible threat actor exist,” said Zachxbt.

Anonymous attacker

In December 2022, an anonymous striker stole 14 NFTS APE Yacht Club NFT, who negotiated at around $ 86,000 each, according to Coinslam data.

Law enforcement “then mistakenly examined the Opensea newspapers which included [Curry’s] IP address at the house and use it to connect it wrongly as a suspect, ”wrote Zachxbt.

“In reality as part of its safety work at Yuga, [Curry] had investigated the flight and used a private key in the website javascript by the threat actor, “said Zachxbt.

Zachxbt said he had used forensic tracing – including reconstruction of the flow of funds through the tornado, an Ethereum mixer – to identify a person he alleys is probably a suspect in the 2022 flight.

He said that law enforcement officials should “request all data related to [the individual’s] Social media accounts ”and search in chain transactions associated with their alleged portfolio.

Launched in 2021, the APE Yacht Bored club is among the most precious NFT collections, with cumulative market capitalization of more than $ 300 million, according to Coigecko data.

As of May 9, the NFT of the annoyed APE were negotiated about $ 30,000 each, according to NFT Marketplace OpenSea. Individual NFTs vary due to the unique characteristics.
