The Civic Democratic Party of Czech Prime Minister Pet Fiala resisted a fourth attempt to overthrow their government in three years – this time with opposition parties uniting against them on a scandal of $ 45 million Bitcoin.
The scandal focuses on a donation of 1 billion bitcoin (BTC) of 1 billion Czechs ($ 45 million) to the Ministry of Justice on May 27 by Tomáš Jiřikovský, a man previously found guilty of drug trafficking, arms and employment.
The motion of non-conflicts presented by the Czech opposition parties Ano, the SPD and the pirates received only 94 votes, seven timids of 101 had to pass. The vote came after more than 24 hours of debate in Parliament, according to a report by České Noviny on Monday.
Votes without confidence are made when a party or an opposition party considers that current leadership is no longer able to govern effectively.
While Fiala’s party has survived the vote without confidence, the controversy adds to increasing concerns about how civil servants are involved in activities related to the crypto which can be in conflict with their functions.
Recent controversies include the benefit of US President Donald Trump from his long list of cryptographic ventures and the involvement of Argentinian president Javier Milei in the Balance token scandal.
The Czech PM admits that errors have been made
Fiala said Bitcoin donation of $ 45 million could have been prevented and recognized that the incident had shaken public confidence in his party.
The Civic Democratic Party “will assume responsibility for ethical misconduct,” said Fiala in a Czech-English translated declaration of the české Noviny report.
However, he accused the opposition parties of having used the debate to “throw dirt, insults and lies” to his group in a post on X on Wednesday.

The other three votes without confidence against the Civic Democratic Party took place between September 2022 and October 2023, concerning issues related to energy, inflation and espionage.
Newly appointed Minister of Justice to investigate Bitcoin donation
The incident led to the resignation of former Minister of Justice Pavel Blažek on May 30, while the Minister of Finance, Zbyněk Stanjura, also put pressure to resign in the midst of the allegations that he knew the gift.
On June 10, Czech President Petr Pavel swore in Eva Decroix as a new Minister of Justice, who promised to order an independent investigation into the actions of the ministry.

She has since declared that the Ministry of Justice, under his direction, “would provide cooperation in the survey on the case of donation”.
Controversial bitcoin donation details
Jiřikovský offered to the Ministry of Justice about a third of his cryptographic portfolio – 1,561 Bitcoin – as a donation, authorized by a court decision which made its devices previously seized.
However, Jiřikovský – who was sentenced in 2017 and published in 2021 – was also previously in control of 3,855.15 other bitcoins linked to the illegal website market.
Technology expert Jiří Berger, who was present when Jiřikovský opened the portfolio with 1,561 Bitcoin, said they could not access the largest hiding place of 3,855.15 Bitcoin because of its storage on older technology.
