Ethereum Foundation restructures, rebrands Protocol team

The Ethereum Foundation (EF) has restructured its internal development group, renamed its main and licensed research team certain staff members.

According to an announcement of June 2, the old research and development team of the EF protocol (PR&P) is now simply “protocol”, which will focus on three strategic objectives: the basic layer of Ethereum (L1), the expansion of Blobspace for Rollups and the improvement of user experience (UX).

“This process of” shipping protocol “is disorderly, asking us to respond proactively to requests that are difficult to articulate and even more difficult to respond,” said the EF.

The Foundation marketed this decision as a pivotal moment for Ethereum, because the progress of zero knowledge technologies (ZKEVMS) and layer 2 technologies bring the blockchain closer to large -scale adoption.

“This moment can be the best stroke of Ethereum to the deployment not only of our technology, but of our values, on a planetary scale.”

The overhaul affected the foundation staff. Basic developers of longtime such as Tim Beiko, Alex Stokes and Barnabé Monnot have been officially assigned to each of the development areas.

As part of the restructuring, “certain members” of the PR&D team leave, he said. The EF did not specify how many people have been affected. Cointelegraph contacted comments but had not received an answer at the time of publication.

“The protocol is now a more united and leaner organization with more targeted teams,” said the EF.

The upheaval of Ethereum continues

The EF has undergone significant leadership changes and structural in recent months.

In January, the co-founder of Ethereum, Vitalik Buterin, announced modifications to the EF leadership model, targeting evolution towards technical expertise and better communication with developers. The announcement was followed by a period of internal criticism and debate on the strategic orientation and the transparency of the Foundation.

A wider structural adjustment took place in April, when the EF formalized a division between its board of directors and its executive functions and appointed two new co-executive directors: Hsiao-wei Wang, longtime Ethereum researcher, and Tomasz Stańczak, CEO of the Nethermind infrastructure company.

As part of the new model, the Board of Directors, which includes Buterin, is responsible for defining a long -term vision, while the newly appointed team of executives manages operations.
