Federal Agents Seize $10 Million in Crypto Linked to Sinaloa Cartel

Federal agents have seized more than $ 10 million in cryptographic assets linked to the notorious of the Sinaloa drug cartel, giving a significant blow to the cartel’s financial operations in Miami.
The repression of July 2025 disrupts a key channel for the money laundering of drug profits, marking a decisive change towards the application of the digital age. This operation indicates an increasing federal orientation on the cessation of drug trafficking by reducing criminal funding, not only based on traditional approaches to the application of laws.
Miami’s operation disrupts Cartel Crypto pipeline
At the beginning of July, a coordinated effort of the Drug Encompement Administration (DEA) and the FBI in Miami led to the seizure of more than $ 10 million in cryptocurrency assets directly linked to the Sinaloa cartel.
Federal agents have discovered complex programs used by the cartel to whiten illicit profits through digital currencies, which makes the paths more difficult to follow and recover.
The Miami crypto crisis was part of a multi-state offensive which included the dismantling of methamphetamine laboratories, fentanyl traffic rings and poly-drug distribution networks. Authorities have seized around 44 million fentanyl pills and 4,500 pounds of fentanyl powder since January. In addition, the agents intercepted nearly 65,000 pounds of methamphetamine and more than 201,500 pounds of cocaine.
The investigation of the Ministry of Justice led to one of the largest cryptography crises of the year. Until now, in 2025, American agencies have intercepted increasing quantities of cryptographic assets linked to international drug operations. In addition, Beincrypto recently reported that American secret services have seized nearly $ 400 million in cryptographic assets in the past decade in the middle of its fight against cryptographic fraud.
Beyond the seizure of assets, those responsible focus on those who allow illegal funds to move beyond international borders. In March, the Treasury Ministry imposed new sanctions against individuals and organizations associated with the Sinaloa cartel.
The sanctions complete the traditional application by freezing assets and reducing access to the American financial system. In doing so, the authorities isolate criminal companies and limit their ability to move illicit funds.
“The DEA strikes the cartels where it hurts – with arrests, with crises and with incessant pressure. Methamphetamine laboratories in California to fentanyl pills disguised as pharmaceuticals seized at our border, these operations save American lives every day, “said the acting administrator of the DEA Robert Murphy.
