From ownership to opportunity, Web3 is still on a mission to reshape music
While streaming platforms dominate the distribution of music, the artists have gotten away and won fractions of sub-playing, while relying on centralized platforms to reach fans.
However, in a corner of the digital world, a new wave of creators, developers and platforms explore how web3 tools can offer an alternative.
Decentralized musical platforms
Decentralized and native web3 musical platforms have emerged in recent years to offer artists more control over their content, more direct access to their audience and better monetization models.
Many of these use cases related to music are not only theoretical and are already in the community at work.
Instead of downloading songs on a platform that has the data and controls the algorithm, the artists’ options develop to distribute their music via decentralized platforms, such as Audius or token content and even offer versions to collect tracks that fans can have and exchange.
In an interview with CinTelelegraph at the end of 2024, Dave Stewart of Eurythmics, who co -founded the web3 Music Platform Songbits, told Cintelegraph:
“Web3 allows us to ensure complete transparency in the way these funds are managed, giving fans and contributors the peace of mind that their support has a real difference.”
Drive by example
Now Cointelegraph joins the experience. To mark the recent launch of its new Daily X Show Chain reactionCintelelegraph has teamed up with Audius to launch a remix competition to find the program’s official theme song.
In relation: AI can deal with good music, but humanity is still holding the creative stick
Artists from all corners of the web are invited to use the Remix function on the basic track of Cointelegraph on the CointeleleGeph Audius profile and download their original theme song to Audius with the #CTchainreacettheme tag.
The winner’s music will be presented daily as an instructive and outro of the show, and they will also be invited for a brief appearance. For complete competition information and the package, visit the event page.
It is a small competition, but it reflects a more important change: ecosystems of decentralized creators have applications of the real world that work and can prosper, not only as marketing waterfalls, but as a means of engaging more directly with native web3 communities.
While music, content and culture are becoming more and more linked to onchain infrastructure, the creative economy could finally go to something more equitable and more fun.
