Google Takes a U-Turn, Approves Using AI for Weapon and Surveillance

The revision of the policy occurred after the inauguration of President Trump. Last month, US President Donald Trump returned to his office, and immediately after that, and withdrew an executive decree of former President Joe Biden who authorized security practices for the development of AI. With this withdrawal, Trump has created a more open space for technological companies which must climb to the top of the AI race on the American market.
After this revised policy has been revealed, the vice-president of Google for research and technology, James Manyika, declared his opinion on the new policy and revealed: “We believe that democracies should lead in the development of AI, guided by fundamental values such as freedom, equality and respect for human rights. »»
Demis Hassabis, CEO of Google Deepmind, also pleads to positively establish this change, saying: “We believe that companies, governments and organizations sharing these values should work together to create an AI that protects people, promotes global growth and supports national security. “”
However, on a global scale, and criticisms are concerned about the consequences of the abolition of Google of its commitment to the ethical use of AI. Many people fear that afterwards, AI will be used for surveillance and even to create autonomous weapons.
