Infrastructure Captured Over 60% of May’s $134M Crypto Fundraising, Outset PR Data Shows

The infrastructure dominates, DEFI dates back to the middle of the month and the beaten of the room even cools – a clearer look at the cryptographic presales of May 2025.

The mid -corner media threshing can have dominated the headlines this spring, but new data from May 2025 reveal a more nuanced fundraising landscape – that where the infrastructure, the challenge and the projects focused on public services have discreetly surpassed their more flashy counterparts.

Fresh figures of the PR internal fundraising tracker at the start of PR reveal a capital landscape in the form of media threshing and more per structure. While the parts even remained very visible, they represented only 9.4% of the $ 134,72 million in presale of the month. On the other hand, the infrastructure and public services projects have obtained together the majority of all the capital raised, the DEFI campaigns absorbing more than $ 22.54 million for the month.

Methodology

This analysis takes advantage of the internal monitoring system of PR, update to incorporate the marking of the refined sector on all the monitored campaigns active in May 2025. Each project was classified not by the demands of marketing at the surface level, but via a frame built on three key dimensions:

  • Product function – The real usefulness of the project, such as infrastructure protocols, payment systems, primitives DEFI or memes savings.
  • Capital behavior – Dynamics of fundraising throughout the life cycle of the campaign, including the calendar of peak entries, coherence and volatility.
  • Narrative positioning – How the project presented itself to the market: whether it is mainly a community, led by influence or positioned around utility and problem solving.

This article is based on preceding reports specific to the category – including my deep dive on the collection of funds from the same – by applying a refined classification framework in all the campaigns followed in May 2025 which collected funds using Barnacle SEO. While the previous report has zoomed in on a single segment, this wider methodology allows consistent transversal comparisons within a unified analytical structure, which results in a clearer vision of the place where investors’ funds have actually passed – and why.

Break the momentum of fundraising by the cryptographic sector

Professor’s exclusive monitoring system shows that more than half of the highest fundraising peaks in all sectors occurred in May 2025 – a convergence of investors’ attention around a key market window. But while the peak of the cycle was shared, each category has reached it with a clearly different rhythm.

  • Portfolio / infrastructure: 81.70 million dollars (60.6%) – The clear leader, marked by a regular traction of the week over the week.
  • Defi projects: $ 22.54 million (16.7%) – Flows focused on concentrated convictions of the month in the middle at the end.
  • AI projects: 16.59 million dollars (12.3%) – gradual fundraising and consistent with strong stories.
  • Same corners: 12.66 million dollars (9.4%) – visible but rotational, with little new traction in small groups.
  • Gamefi: $ 1.24 million (0.9%) – Short gusts related to specific campaign events.

Infrastructure projects guarantee the majority capital share

Public service and infrastructure projects aimed at long -term use cases – including the scalability of the protocol, transversal tools and payment infrastructure – collected $ 81.70 million, representing more than 60% of all prevented capital in May. These campaigns have experienced acceleration entries in mid -May, followed by a modest drop of the last week – a model that suggests an early traction consolidating in a more measured participation. While most of these projects were launched before May, investors’ activity has always remained strong throughout the month, stressing the sustainable attraction of fundamental infrastructure stories.

AI projects gradually increase the momentum

The collection of funds on the theme of the AI-AI closed the month with $ 16.59 million, or about 12.3% of all presale. Projects of this category were based strongly on the use cases applied and technical credibility rather than on the call of memes or the support of influence. The fundraising dynamics have gradually increased in the first three weeks before ensuring slightly at the end of the month – a model compatible with the interest of investors motivated by long -term vision rather than by media threshing cycles.

Defi proves the middle of the sustainable cycle

DEFI Projects collectively raised $ 22.54 million, which represents more than 16.7% of the total fundraising in May. The fundraising increased sharply during the third week, reflecting the sudden interest of investors for the development, governance and extraction of liquidity. However, this overvoltage was reserved by quieter weeks, suggesting that traction in the middle of the month has led most of the activity.

Gamefi is late in sustained interest

Gamefi projects struggled to grow, obtaining just over $ 1.24 million in May. The fundraising was largely motivated by events, by doping during demonstration launches or NFT falls, but not having a weekly weekly traction. Compared to other sectors, the consistency of Gamefi investors was low.

Coins are cooling but remain present

Campaigns and the same corner pulled $ 12.66 million in May – although it was not insignificant, it marked a significant deceleration of overvoltages in early spring. Most capital have moved between existing tokens, suggesting a rotation rather than a wave of new entrants. The presence on the sector market has remained noisy, but participation in capital less. The fundraising has shown intermittent gains with a last week peak, reflecting the concentrated momentum around pre -existing tokens rather than new launches. Although attention has been maintained, few campaigns have demonstrated lasting traction beyond momentary peaks. Our previous coverage of fundraising on the same part offered precious precious instant in campaign flows, but this refined analysis applies a coherent methodology in all sectors – giving a more complete image of the dynamics of the room even compared to the wider market.

Final reflections

May 2025 confirmed that the presale capital follows the substance, not just the show. Infrastructure and public services projects have gained confidence through regular delivery. DEFI displayed a strength in the middle of the cycle. AI attracted regular curiosity and support. The coins brought the noise, but not the follow -up. Gamefi remained sensitive to promotion and incoherent.

Where attention has changed quickly, the capital moved caution. And in this prudence, the clearest signals have emerged – this long -term structure and usefulness always define the deepest flows of cryptographic fundraising.

The main thing is that capital does not only follow the crowd – it follows conviction. And in a space where the threshing media fades quickly, it is the rhythm, not the volume, which leaves a brand. Those who learn to listen to the signal under the noise will not simply follow the pace – they will shape it.
