JD Vance Says It’s “A Huge Mistake” for Musk to Go After Trump, Calls for Truce as The Clash Draws Business Heavyweights Into the Fray
Vice-president JD Vance urges the restraint in the middle of the thorough quarrel between President Donald Trump and Elon Musk, warning that the high-level confrontation between the most powerful political leader in the world and the richest man in the world is likely to harm the country if he is allowed to degenerate.
Vance addressed the question in an episode this last weekend with Theo Von, recorded Thursday while the row intensified. Musk had previously denounced the infrastructure and the Trump manufacturing bill as a “disgusting abomination”, causing an online reaction wave and an energetic response from the president during a White House event with the German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
“I think it’s a huge mistake for him to continue the president like that,” said Vance, stressing that even if Musk is free to disagree, the public nature of the fight was harmful. “I am not saying that he must agree with everything … I just think it is a huge error for the richest man in the world … to be at war with the most powerful man in the world.”

Vance admitted that Trump had become “a little frustrated” by Musk’s criticism, but insisted that the conflict could still be defused, calling it “bad for the country” and urging Musk to “return to the fold”.
The spit, which started with political criticism, quickly turned into personal blows. Trump, when he was initially cut, retaliated on Thursday, saying that Musk had enormously benefited from the support of the administration.
“I am very disappointed with Elon. I helped Elon a lot,” said Trump, adding that Musk “never had a problem” with the bill while working in close collaboration with the administration, to become critic after having left its advisory role.
Musk then launched a volley of messages on X (formerly Twitter), accusing the ingratitude president and claiming that Trump would have lost the 2024 elections without his help. The billionaire even warned against the “misleading rotation” and alluded to deeper questions, before later deleting a controversial position in which he suggested that Trump belonged in the files of Jeffrey Epstein sealed – that is why the documents had not been made public. Although the position was removed later, he added fuel to an increasing fire and made net reactions online.
Corporate titans weigh
The public quarrel has alarmed several leading figures in business and technology, which prompted both parties to withdraw.
The head of billionaire hedge funds, Bill Ackman, went to X to express his support for Trump and Musk, urging them to resolve their differences for national stability.
“We are much stronger together than separate,” Ackman wrote in a widely shared article. “Make peace for the benefit of our country.” Musk, in a change in your notable, replied: “You are not wrong.”
Ackman was a vocal supporter of Trump’s re -election offer in 2024, and his comments suggest an increasing concern in elite financial circles in the face of the public fight between two of the most influential personalities in the country.
Paul Graham, co -founder of Y Combinator and a venerated figure in Silicon Valley, also weighed on the question: “Many people seem to deal with this as if it were a beef. But the underlying allegation is very serious. If it’s true, Trump will surely have to resign, “he said.
Graham did not clarify what allegation he was referring to, but his comment would be Epstein’s file.
Signs of a thaw
Despite the stormy exchange, there were panels on Friday evening that the two parties were trying to mitigate the tensions. Their partnership represented a powerful combination of political influence and technological power – which could shape everything, from energy and infrastructure policy to AI regulation and spatial exploration.
Now the split threatens to fracture this alignment. Trump, whose administration was strongly invested in anti-environmental policies, also suggested Musk federal contracts in response to Tesla CEO reviews.
Vance, trying to maintain the damage contained, said Trump and Musk play critical roles in the future of America.
