Meta Deepens AI Poaching Spree, Grabs More Apple Researchers for Superintelligence Push

Meta does not slow down her aggressive talent seizure in the race for artificial intelligence, because the company has hired two other Apple high -level researchers, strengthening its ambition to direct the next Wave of Innovation of AI.
According to Bloomberg, Apple’s two engineers – Mark Lee and Tom Gunter – are the latest additions to the recently launched superintendent division of Meta, joining their former colleague Ruoming Pang, who left Apple in July.
Lee has already started working in Meta, while Gunter should start soon. The two had worked in close collaboration with the Secret Foundation Models of Apple, which focused on the development of large internal language models. Their defection is another blow for Apple’s internal ambitions of APA, which are now faced with visible cracks because more talents leave despite the recent push of Apple to integrate the functionality of AI in iOS and macOS.

Meta, under the supervision of Mark Zuckerberg, pours huge resources in what he calls the superintendent laboratories – a new arm of the company focused on construction systems that go beyond the current AI capabilities and imitate reasoning on a human level. The initiative, announced in June, is carried out by the founder of the AI scale, Alexandr Wang, as a chief officer of the AI and the former CEO of Github, Nat Friedman. Their objective is to design what initiates describe as an “agentic AI” – systems that can not only interpret language, but also independently, plan and use tools in complex environments.
But the construction of such systems does not only require calculation power – it requires elite human capital. And the meta leaves no stone not returned to obtain it. The company is now largely considered to be the most aggressive recruiter of Silicon Valley of the best IA researchers. In addition to Pang, Lee and Gunter, Meta also poache the main scientists of Google Deepmind, Openai and university laboratories. The firm offered breathtaking remuneration packages, in some cases exceeding $ 100 million, to convince key figures to jump the ship.
Familiar sources with transactions have told Reuters that offers are structured as contracts for stars athletes – capital -year -old agreements that include actions, bonuses and large incentives to the initial signature. The pang agreement, for example, would have exceeded $ 200 million, a sum which even eclipses the most generous remuneration for Apple, where the awards based on shares are more conservative and linked to long -term retention.

Apple, on the other hand, rushed to contain the damage. After the release of Pang, the company began to issue increases to select engineers working on its AI systems. But Meta’s remuneration packages are in a separate league, which makes it difficult for competitors to compete. The recent Apple partnerships with Openai and Anthropic in Power Siri and iPhone AI have also aroused speculation according to which the Company takes its strategy from the construction of its own fundamental models to licenses, perhaps the result of internal attrition.
Meta’s Spree does not seem to stop anytime soon. Zuckerberg has promised tens of billions of dollars to build the company’s AI infrastructure, including data centers and owner silicon chips, to support training on a scale that could compete or exceed Openai and Google. Internally, the company also works on “Behemoth”, a new massive LLM intended to jump existing models like GPT-4 and Claude.
Industry analysts believe that the intense recruitment motivation of Meta and the commitment to frontier AI positions him as one of the few serious contenders in the race to develop general artificial intelligence (AG), or at the very least, agent systems capable of performing autonomous tasks without direct human supervision.

At the heart of this transformation is the belief that AI is not only a characteristic but the future of computer science, and whoever directs in the agent of IA could control the operating system of the digital economy of tomorrow. Meta bets big on this future, a superstar recruit at the same time.
