OKX Claims Bybit Misled EU Regulators Over Hack

OKX rejected a recent article claiming that the EU’s childcare dogs examined the exchange on its potential role in the Hack of Bybit. The cabinet received a Mica license last month to respect the compliance of the EU and affirms that regulators will not work on its services.

OKX’s comments have taken a surprisingly hostile tone towards Bybit, even if the company proactively attempted to cooperate in freezing stolen money. He did not directly refute the idea that Lazarus group hackers used his decentralized services.

Okx repels claims for the EU examination

OKX, a leading crypto exchange, recently made its regulatory credibility. Last month, OKX settled with the United States Ministry of Justice to help normalize relations. He also recently obtained a Mica license to lead cases in the European Union.

Today, the exchange reacted to a recent Bloomberg article which said that the EU regulators have discreetly examined it. In the article, Bloomberg referred to the bybit declaration and described that EU regulators “focus” on OKX web3 services.

“The Bloomberg article is misleading. It is regrettable that Bybit’s statements distribute disinformation among journalists. We want to clarify for our community that OKX is not the subject of an investigation. This is simply the lack of know-how of Bybit. Our web3 portfolio services are not different from what is offered by other industry players, ”wrote OKX on X (formerly Twitter).

A misunderstanding of appeal?

On March 4, the CEO of Bebit, Ben Zhou, posted a break in the silver laundering efforts of the Lazare group, which were widely crowned with success.

In addition, Zhou said 8% of the funds had been bleached by a decentralized Oxk portfolio, and its president, Hong Fang, contacted to help. Zhou thanked her for this help.

However, these 8% of the stolen funds, which amounted to around $ 100 million, are at the center of the apparent EU. Bloomberg has reported that regulators are trying to determine whether the decentralized web3 separate OKX is also from Mica. If so, the EU can even claim that Whit has violated sanctions against North Korea.

All that is to say that this report does not quote any new complaints from Bybit, except the exchange between Zhou and Hong. This interaction had a very cordial tone at the time, but OKX’s official declaration is much more caustic today.

The company absolutely refutes these claims and reiterates that Bybit has been hacked due to its own security vulnerabilities.

“We will continue to help strengthen the industry. But we absolutely refute the false allegations of Bybit who lead to disinformation on our role in what started as a serious security vulnerability on their exchange, “wrote Okx.

These statements are particularly worrying and do not necessarily align with OKX’s proactive response after hacking. When hacking occurred for the first time, Crypto Sleuth Zachxbt specifically appreciated the company’s desire to help freeze stolen assets.

If this cooperation has attracted a regulatory examination, however, a certain frustration is understandable. So far, Bybit has not commented on any of these procedures.

It is important to remember that Bloomberg did not declare that a criminal investigation was held, only that a confidential group of duty dogs was discussing the issue. He did not specifically address the real laundering allegations.
