Govt Bans 25 OTT Platforms Like Ullu & ALTT in Adult Content Crackdown

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technologies (MEITY), following a series of public complaints and internal surveys, determined that these streaming platforms hosted and distributed mastered soft pornographic content as an “erotic web series”.
The news of the prohibition of ULLU Altt sparked a debate on creative freedom against cultural responsibility. The ministry said that the content had violated the provisions of computer rules and rules, which both establish standards for decency, content moderation and children’s safety.
The increase in obscene content in India has triggered calls for clearer content guidelines on digital platforms. The authorities found that platforms were lacking sufficient measures to filter or, allowing easy access, especially for minors, with adult content. This caused urgent government intervention.
