Ross Ulbricht Auction Nets $1.8M in Bitcoin

An auction of the personal effects of the founder of Silk Road, Ross Ulbricht, reported more than 1.8 million dollars of Bitcoin while collectors rivalry for pieces of cryptographic history.

Ulbricht, who was pardoned by former president Donald Trump earlier this year, offered a range of items through the Bitcoin market only City.

The collection included personal effects before its 2013 arrest – such as a sleeping bag, a backpack and a drum – as well as prison memories such as a lock, a notebook, clothes and several paintings created during incarceration.

A collaborative painting from Ulbricht and a colleague known as “Omega” also drew attention, obtaining a winner of 1.01 BTC. “It gave me the feeling that, if I could cross it, something better would be on the other side,” said Ulbricht about the work of art.

In order to participate in the auctions, the tenderers had to file 1% of their offer in warranty. Last minute offers also reset the countdown to ensure fair competition.

The final payments must be completed by June 2, with Bitcoin (BTC) preferred, although Paypal payments have also been accepted.

Millions of dormant bitcoins

In addition to increasing $ 1.8 million in the auction and receiving significant community donations, Ulbricht can have access to millions to Bitcoin.

Coinbase director Conor Grogan recently stressed that around 430 BTC, currently valued at around 47 million dollars, remain in portfolios probably linked to Ulbricht. These portfolios have been inactive for over 13 years and have never been seized by the authorities.

“I found ~ 430 BTC on dozens of portfolios associated with Ross Ulbricht which were not confiscated by the [US government] And have not been affected for over 13 years, ”shared Grogan on X.

The blockchain analysis company, Arkham Intelligence, confirmed the assessment of Grogan, tracing 14 Bitcoin addresses linked to Silk Road. One of these portfolios alone contains more than $ 9 million in BTC.
