Sam Altman Declares ChatGPT 4o the “Best Search Product on the Web”

Sam Altman, CEO of Openai, boldly said that the last Chatgpt 4o update makes it “best web research”, signaling the company’s ambitions to challenge Google and other search engines Food by AI.
In an article on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, Altman said that Chatgpt 4o is already “quite good” but that “will go much better”. His comments come then that Optai continues to refine her AI model, which has more and more attracted attention to its advanced writing capacities and its ability to process text, audio and images.
Altman also retweeted several messages praising the release of Chatgpt, some users calling his writing skills “incredibly good” and “similar to humans”. However, it is not clear if it was referring to a new update beyond the detailed OPENAI improvements on January 29.

The evolution of GPT-4O and its role in research AI
Since its beginnings in May 2024, GPT-4O (where “O” represents OMNI) has established new benchmarks for the interactions led by AI. Its ability to transparently integrate different communication modes – text, voice and images – positioned it as a versatile assistant, pushing the limits of what AI can achieve.
OPENAI recently underlined the improvement of the model’s ability to provide more relevant, current and contextually precise responses, in particular with regard to cultural and social trends. This improvement seems to aim directly to strengthen the position of Chatgpt as an alternative of research, a space long dominated by Google.
Altman’s latest remarks reflect Openai’s confidence in the extensive role of GPT-4O as a research tool, a functionality that has become more and more popular among users who are looking for responses to AA Rather than the traditional results of search engines.

Altman’s comments on research came in response to a light exchange with Aravind Srinivas, the founder and CEO of Perplexity, a research startup on AI that has gained ground as an alternative Google.
Srinivas, who previously worked in Openai, answered the post of Altman with cheeky “Sorry what is the update?” Apparently challenges Altman’s claims.
Altman retaliated, saying that “among many other things, it is the best research product on the web” and encouraged Srinivas to try it. Srinivas, in turn, underlined the own progress of Perplexity, noting that his business had just launched an “in -depth research agent”.

Altman finished the exchange with a friendly but competitive tone, telling Srinivas to “continue to cook” and that he was “proud”.
The fun back and forth indicates the growing competition in the research fueled by AI, where Chatgpt and Perplexity have become key players aimed at redefining the way users find and consume information.
A real challenge for Google?
The growing domination of chatgpt in AI research has not gone unnoticed. According to Evercore ISI research, the market share of the research of Chatgpt increased significantly between June and November 2024, marking the first real challenge to Google’s supremacy over the years.
Google has long maintained its domination in research, but as AI assistants become more sophisticated, users are counting more and more on AI models like Chatgpt for direct responses. This change could constitute a long -term threat to Google’s lucrative research activities, which generates most of its income through advertising.
Although Chatgpt is not yet a full -fledged search engine, the rapid progress of Openai suggest that the company is positioning itself as a major player on the research market, with the potential to disrupt a industry historically controlled by Google .
Altman’s confidence in the Chatppt 4o also suggests that Optai can have more important plans for AI research, possibly possibly chatgpt capacities to provide real -time web search results – a functionality that has been in high demand among users.
With Google, perplexity and other search engines led by innovative AI quickly, the race to dominate the next generation of research is warming up. Time will tell us if Chatgpt 4o can really replace traditional search engines, but Altman’s declaration marks a change in the web search landscape.
