Sequoia Capital exec also a victim in Coinbase data breach — Report
At least one Sequoia Capital partner would have been affected by the recent data violation among Coinbase users, suggesting that data from other venture capital society may also have been compromised.
According to a Bloomberg report on May 16, Sequoia Capital Georing Partner Roelof Botha, the personal information available via his Coinbase account, was stolen after a group of cybercriminals has welded exchange agents for access to user data. Although Botha has not publicly disclosed its net value, the estimates suggested that it had hundreds of millions of dollars in assets.
Coinbase revealed data violation in a blog article on May 15, saying that some of its users had been targeted with social engineering attacks after criminals had access to their personal account information. The company said the group had tried to extort $ 20 million in exchange for not having disclosed the violation, which Coinbase has pushed back.
Although the magnitude of the violation is still unknown, another Bloomberg report suggested that the same type of attack targeted Kraken and Binance users. Cointelegraph holded out the representatives of the two exchanges but had received no response at the time of publication.
This is a history in development, and additional information will be added as it will be available.
