Switzerland proposes cross-country crypto data sharing
Switzerland goes ahead with plans to automatically share data related to cryptography with 74 partner countries, including the United Kingdom and all the Member States of the European Union.
The Federal Council, the Government of Switzerland, adopted a bill to allow automatic exchange of information (AEOI) on the crypto with partner countries, according to an official announcement on June 6.
The proposal also suggests sharing data with most G20 countries. The measure excludes the United States, Saudi Arabia and China, according to an X post from the Swiss federal government.
The bill is currently under discussion in Parliament and, if it is approved, the framework of cryptographic assets would take effect on January 1, 2026.
First exchange of data expected in 2027
The new proposal follows the sending of the Federal Council on the international and national legal bases of the AEOI concerning the cryptographic assets adopted on February 19, 2025.
During a meeting on June 6, the Council adopted the dispatch on the approval of the AEOI, targeting the first exchange of cryptographic data in 2027.
Before the real exchange of data on cryptographic assets, the Federal Council proposed to examine whether the partner states with which the AEOI has been activated continue to meet the requirements of the standard.
“To this end, the existing examination mechanism of the AEOI on information on financial accounts should also cover the AEOI concerning cryptographic assets, which requires that the corresponding federal decree be modified accordingly,” said the Council.
This is a history in development, and additional information will be added as it will be available.
