TikTok Is Developing U.S.-Only App As Sale Deadline Nears, To Launch Sept. 5

Tiktok would work on a version separate from its application adapted to American users, while the pressure rises before a deadline of September 17 for its parent company based in China, bytedance, to divest its American operations.
This decision, reported for the first time by information, suggests that the social media platform set technical bases for a potential change in property – which could radically reshape its presence on the American market.
According to sources mentioned in the report, the specific renovated Tiktok application in the United States should be launched in American application stores on September 5. Users currently on the existing world version will possibly download the new application to continue accessing the service, although the current application will remain functional until March 2026. The chronology, however, remains fluid and can move on political and regular developments.

A response to Washington pressure
Development comes only a few days after President Donald Trump told journalists that he would open talks with China on Monday or Tuesday to finalize what he called a “roughly” in agreement on the future of Tiktok in the United States.
Trump has accused Tiktok for years of presenting a national security threat because of his links with China, where his parent company Bytedance has its registered office. The position of the administration hardened after Trump announced new steep price cycles on Chinese imports, which prompted Beijing to implement the approval of a previous agreement which would have retained the US Tiktok operations in a company belonging to the majority and managed by American investors.
Trump’s latest remarks suggest that negotiations could resume to guarantee Chinese regulatory approval of the restructuring plan for a long time.

New application, new property
The US version updated in the application is part of the wider Tiktok strategy to comply with American regulatory requests, in particular with regard to data security, algorithms control and property transparency. The sale of Tiktok American activities to a group of American investors – perhaps including companies like Oracle or Walmart, which had been involved in previous negotiations – remains active.
Tiktok did not comment on the report and details of the chronology or the development of applications have not been verified independently.
However, if it is confirmed, the decision to demand that American users migrate to a new application would mark a significant technical and symbolic change – efficiently carving out the US market in the global Tiktok ecosystem. This would also control entities belonging to United States on the basis of American users, moderation of local content, and perhaps even a distinct recommendation algorithm adapted to American regulations and values.

The role of China is always key
Despite President Trump’s insistence that the United States has a ready “ready” agreement, any final arrangement will probably require Beijing’s blessing. China had previously tightened the export rules around algorithms – the heart of Tiktok’s viral success – complicating all transfer or duplication plans of the application of the application abroad.
We still do not know what concessions, if necessary, would be made on each side to unlock the regulatory blocking.
What it means for users
For more than 170 million Americans who use Tiktok, the next split could mean redesign a new application, accept new service conditions and possibly adapt to changes in functionalities or content conservation. Tiktok has not confirmed if the American version would have looked different from the current application, but many expect a more pronounced separation in data management and moderation policies.
The existing application should continue to operate, although it can become more and more isolated from world content trends that the infrastructure and Back-End systems diverge until March 2026 cut.
