Trump Teases New Reciprocal Tariffs to Level Global Trade Playing Field

President Donald Trump teased a new series of reciprocal rates on Truth Social Prices on Thursday, aimed at equaling higher rates than other countries are charging on American imports. He described it as “the big” of his article, calling him a key step to “make America again large”. Reciprocal prices were a key element in Trump’s campaign. He wanted to create a fairer trade system by imposing prices (taxes) on goods from other countries that charge high prices on American products. The prices should have the most impact on developing countries, in particular India, Brazil, Vietnam and other nations of Southeast Asia and Africa. These countries have some of the widest differences between the tariff rates they charge on American goods and what the United States invoices them.
