US Military Leadership Supports BTC Reserve: Sen. Lummis

American senator Cynthia Lummis said that certain divisions within the US military support the idea of a Bitcoin national reserve to respond to threats to economic wars.

During an interview with Bloomberg on June 3, Lummis said that some American generals, in particular those based in Southeast Asia, support the idea of storing the BTC as part of a strategic geopolitical decision.

“All we have to do is look at the direction of the current American army to find support for a Bitcoin strategic reserve,” said Lummis, adding that:

“There are generals, especially in Southeast Asia, who believe that it is important to have a strategic bitcoin stock because we are making an economic war with China and we have to prepare for a war of firearms and balls. But we need the two.”

Cointelegraph contacted the US Department of Defense for Comments but did not receive an answer at the time of publication.

Its remarks occurred during a segment on tensions between China and the United States, as the country was at the Center for the Trump Administration Trade Wars. Trump’s prices initially applied to most American business partners, but the administration then suspended many of them, with the exception of those who target China. The two nations finally reached a temporary trade agreement, softening tensions.

Trump expressed the realization of the United States, the “world capital of the crypto” during his second mandate in the White House. “If we do not do it, China will recover it and China will have it, or someone else, but most likely China,” he told Bloomberg during the campaign in 2024.

China has implemented a complete ban on cryptographic activities since 2021, while betting on blockchain technology to food projects such as its digital central currency, the Digital Yuan.

Speaking to Bitcoin 2025 on May 28, US vice-president JD Vance stressed the geopolitical importance of Bitcoin. According to him, the United States must maintain its leadership in the cryptography industry to remain competitive in the new landscape of digital finances.
