What Went Wrong with EA’s Remaster?

The life- doesn’t have many options available for gamers; therefore, the popularity of EA’s The Sims games is unbeatable. These games generate millions of revenues for EA, especially after The Sims 4 went free-to-play in 2022.
As the fanbase is getting bigger, the demand for re-releasing the first two games of the series also gets higher. So, when EA granted their wish and re-released The Sims and The Sims 2 on January 31, 2025, it was a remarkable moment for . Unfortunately, this excitement didn’t last long.
Immediately after the release of The Legacy Collections, players started reporting bugs and glitches. While both games have these issues, The Sims 2 Legacy Collection is reportedly broken with crashes and other bugs. This re-release is intended to make these games easy to run on , but the situation is completely different than what was expected.
Notably, these issues vary from one to another based on their system. While some players can enjoy these Legacy Collections without much trouble, others face loads of problems, including not booting up, crashing at launch, or launching only in windowed mode.
Additionally, players have reported that their Sims are refusing to obey commands and, in some cases, the game is deleting Sims randomly, making it difficult for players to progress. Most importantly, these negative reviews are not only from those who have played a few hours only, but even players who have ground The Sims 2 Legacy Collection for more than eight hours pointed out these same problems.
Despite The Sims 2 Legacy Collection touching the peak of 5k concurrent players on Steam on the launch day, broken gameplay experiences have brought the rating down to Mixed instead of Mostly Positive.
