Amazon Invests $13B in AI Data Centers in Australia by 2029
The online giant of retail and cloud computing Amazon plans to invest more than $ 13 billion in artificial intelligence and cloud infrastructure in Australia, the company announced on Saturday.
Amazon plans to invest 20 billion Australian dollars ($ 13.4 billion) by 2029 to extend the capacities of the Australian AI and Cloud, marking the largest technological investment announced publicly from the country to date by a global company.
Investment will expand, operating and maintaining Amazon Web Services (AWS) data centers in the country.
“This is the biggest investment that our country has seen with a world technology supplier, and an exciting opportunity for Australia to strengthen AI capacities using secure and resilient infrastructure,” said Anthony Albanese, Prime Minister of Australia, adding:
“The investment will generate economic opportunities for Australians, including qualified jobs and infrastructure which can support complex applications of AI and SuperCalculculcul.”
Part of the $ 13 billion will be used to build three new renewable solar farms in Victoria and Queensland, which relates to 11 renewable Amazon projects in the country at 11.
Solar farms are expected to generate around 1.4 million carbon -free energy megawatts per year, which is equivalent to around 290,000 Australian houses.

Amazon became for the first time on the Australian market in 2012 with the opening of Amazon Web Services (AWS) Asia-Pacific in Sydney. In July 2024, the Australian government joined forces with AWS to launch a “top secret” cloud with national security and defense.
On June 11, Amazon joined forces with Talen Energy to buy nuclear energy to supply AWS servers and AI data centers in Pennsylvania until 2042.
The partnership occurred two days after Amazon announced its intention to invest $ 20 billion in its IA infrastructure in Pennsylvania, as more and more technological companies are pivot for the creation of AI capabilities.

AI, automation to add $ 400 billion to Australia GDP by 2030
Continuous investment in AI services and automation should strengthen the economy of Australia.
AI and developments related to automation should contribute to $ 400 billion annually to gross domestic product (GDP) of the country, according to the Ministry of Industry, Science and Resources of the Government.
Amazon has invested more than $ 312 million in Australian projects in renewable energy from 2020 to 2022.
