Zksync Hacker returns $ 5.7 million

On April 15, the scalability solution of layer 2 based in Ethereum, Zksync, underwent a hacking. The compromise account controlled a value of $ 5 million in ZK tokens. As Beincrypto reported, the incident caused a price drop of 16%.

The incident was controversial after some community members noticed certain data concerning. The revelations have led to disastrous allegations, some compared Zksync in the Mantra (OM). For some, Zksync responded to the hack by pouring their assets at an accelerated pace.

“The ZKSYNC team has published 110 million tokens and sold 66 million. ZK’s price goes against the trend as the market is recovering, and it immediately dropped by 15%. First OM, now ZK, this project seems to be heading in the wrong direction,” noted a user.

This bordered the diversion of diversion. However, in a recent development, the Zksync association revealed that the pirate had made 90% of the funds, effectively honoring the deadline for Safe Harbor.

Thanks to an article on April 21 on X (Twitter), the Zksync Security Council offered a 10% bonus to the pirate if they returned the stolen funds, allowing a window of 72 hours.

“To resolve this amicable question in a spirit of Safe Harbor, we offer a bonus of 10% for your cooperation if you make 90% of the funds involved in the feat,” shared ZK Nation on X.

In this case, the bad actor took into account, transferring nearly $ 5.7 million to the ZKSYNC Security Council on three transfers on April 23.

More specifically, they sent two transfers to the Blockchain of the Zksync era. The first involved sending $ 1.83 million in Ethereum (ETH) to the ZKSYNC era of Zksync Security Council, and the second concerned the sending of $ 2.47 million of ZKSYNC token.

With this, the Zksync Association is committed to publishing a final report revealing more details on the security incident.

Meanwhile, it should be noted that the pirate followed the instructions given by the ZKSYNC Security Council to the letter. On this basis, the case ends without further action.

He reflects the past Incidents, including Ronin Bridge hacking pirates returning for $ 10 million from Eth and winning $ 500,000 prime.

Despite the turn of events, however, the ZK token continues to display a lowering feeling, almost 2% in the last 24 hours. To date, the Zksync token was negotiated at $ 0.06.

Meanwhile, not all hacking incidents honor the refuge offers. Recently, Bybit launched a premium program offering up to 10% of funds recovered from ethical pirates and cybersecurity experts.

This prompted efforts to recover $ 1.4 billion in stolen assets. While certain efforts to recover the lost assets have given results, the partial recovery was thanks to the main players in the intervening industry, not to the operator.

Meanwhile, other ecosystems exploit premium programs to strengthen security. Charles Hoskinson de Cardano recently offered a bonus of $ 1 million to hack the new lace paper portfolio, testing his safety.

Similarly, Uniswap announced a record of $ 15.5 million in Bug bonuses targeting critical vulnerabilities in its basic V4 contracts.
