Trump Signs Executive Order to Create U.S. Sovereign Wealth Fund

According to a recent Bloomberg report, US President Donald Trump signed a decree on Monday to the US Treasury and Trade Services to create a sovereign heritage fund.
“We have enormous potential,” said Trump in the Oval Office on Monday, when he unveiled the new initiative. He shared that the secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent and the candidate for the Secretary of Commerce, Howard Lungick, will take charge of the effort. Bessent, next to Trump, stressed that the fund would be established in the next 12 months, calling it “great strategic importance”.
This decision aims to create an important investment fund controlled by the government, potentially positioning the United States as a major actor in global markets alongside countries like Norway and Saudi Arabia. The creation of the fund has sparked discussions on how it could be funded, managed and on which its investment strategies will focus, in particular given the substantial national debt of America. This evolution is considered a strategic step to improve American economic influence both at the national level and international
Trump said this fund could potentially be used to buy Tiktok. Tiktok, which has around 170 million American users, was temporarily deceased offline before a law obliging its Chinese owner, Bytedance, for sale or to face a prohibition to take effect on January 19. After taking up his duties, Trump delayed the law of 75 days with an executive decree. He said he was in talks with several buyers and expects to decide the future of Tiktok in February.
A sovereign wealth fund (SWF) is an investment fund belonging to the State made up of assets such as shares, bonds, real estate and other financial instruments. Governments create these funds to achieve specific economic objectives, often using money from budgetary surpluses, foreign currency operations, privatizations, government transfers or resource export income.
However, it remains to be seen if BTC and other digital assets will be included.
